About Syötte National Park

Located in the northern part of Finland, Syötte National Park is renowned for its rugged terrain, diverse ecosystems, and rich natural heritage. Established in 2005, the park covers a large area of forested hills and valleys in the Finnish Lapland region. The terrain is dominated by old-growth boreal forests featuring Scots pine and Norway spruce, mixed with ancient peatlands and small fells reaching up to 450 meters in elevation. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including elk, lynx, wolverines, and numerous bird species such as Siberian jay and black grouse, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The park's landscape is shaped by the last Ice Age, with deep ravines, boulder fields, and interconnected streams providing striking features for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can explore a network of marked trails suitable for all skill levels, including multi-day hikes and shorter nature walks that pass by scenic lookouts and traditional smoke huts. In winter, the park becomes a hub for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, with snow-covered forests creating a magical atmosphere. Syötte National Park also plays a vital role in preserving the cultural heritage of the area, with traces of traditional Finnish wilderness livelihoods still evident. Its remote location and relatively low visitor numbers make it an excellent destination for solitude and a true wilderness experience. The park’s visitor center near Syötte village offers educational exhibits, maps, and guidance to help visitors make the most of their trip.
